The Golden Key of Kappa Kappa Gamma

The Woman Behind The Badge

"The Woman Behind The Badge" is a project of The Golden Key Alumnae Association.  Integral to our effort to inspire pride in wearing the badge is a desire to preserve the heritage of deceased members who have distinguished themselves and the Fraternity by manifesting in their lives the ideals and values our badge symbolizes.  Our project is a tribute for the upcoming sesquicentennial celebration of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity in 2020.  We are preserving for display badges rescued by our Keepers of The Key committee whose original owners meet those criteria.

In addition, we are asking each association and each chapter which has the privilege of holding in trust badges that have been given to them for use as presidents', award or recognition badges to photograph and email The Golden Key (Golden_Key@comcast.net) close-up photos of the front and back of each such badge, so that the identification engraved on it can be read.  In return, Keepers of The Key volunteers will research the history of each badge owner, write up that information and return it to the chapter or association with the request that: 1) they assure that each badge is carefully protected from loss and worn with respect on special occasions; 2) they post the historical write-up on their websites so that the information is always available to members; 3) that every year, at their Founders Day celebrations, the story of “The Woman Behind The Badge" is told orally to all in attendance.  Our goal is to assure that the significance and value of these treasured badges is shared and cherished by living members, in tribute to the women who felt a connection to the chapter or association which is the steward of her key.
